India operations
Your local India operations partner.
Recruiting a team in India is the visible part. Operating it is where international businesses lose time. VMG brings together the people, local coordination, workspace, providers, vendors and operational support needed to establish and run an India team.
The role
One relationship instead of a dozen.
Left to itself, an India operation quickly becomes a collection of separate relationships: a recruiter, an employment or payroll provider, a landlord or coworking operator, an IT supplier, an equipment vendor, a connectivity provider, an accountant. Each in a different time zone, each requiring management.
VMG coordinates the local operating environment and provides a single point of contact across the different relationships required to run the India operation — in the same time zone as the team, and able to attend to matters that need dealing with the same day.
Recruitment coordination
Sourcing, screening and shortlisting candidates in the Indian market against role definitions you have agreed. You interview and you select. VMG runs the process, manages the pipeline and handles the practical realities of hiring in the relevant Indian location.
Employee onboarding
Taking a new joiner from offer to productive: documentation, formalities, equipment, system access, introductions to your managers, and support through the first weeks.
Workplace coordination
Whether the team works remotely, from coworking space or from a dedicated office, the space, access and practical arrangements need organising locally. That is VMG's role.
Employment & provider coordination
Where you do not yet have an Indian entity, VMG helps coordinate appropriate employment, payroll and statutory arrangements through established specialist partners, and manages that relationship on your behalf.
Local vendors
Identifying, engaging and managing Indian suppliers — connectivity, equipment, facilities, transport and whatever else the operation requires — so that you are not negotiating with vendors in a time zone you are not in.
Equipment & infrastructure
Computers, peripherals, connectivity, backup arrangements and the practical infrastructure a working team requires, procured and maintained locally.
Local administration
The steady stream of administrative work that accompanies operating in India, handled locally so that it does not reach your desk.
Employee matters
People matters are difficult to resolve from another continent. VMG helps coordinate local employee matters — attendance, day-to-day concerns, personal circumstances and changes in the team — and works with you and the relevant employment or professional partner where formal action is required.
Operational reporting
Regular, plain reporting to your management on how the operation is running: staffing, attendance, changes, issues and anything requiring attention. In your time zone, in a form you can use.
Liaison with overseas management
A single point of contact who understands both your business and the Indian operating context, and who keeps the two aligned.
Boundaries
What stays with you
A local operations partner is not a substitute for your own management. The division is deliberate, and it is what keeps the team closely aligned with your organisation.
- Your technical and business processes. How the work is done is your intellectual property.
- Technical training. Your specialists train the team. VMG handles local induction; you provide the substance of the role.
- Work allocation. What is worked on, and in what order, is a decision for your managers.
- Professional standards. Quality expectations, review and sign-off remain yours.
- Commercial and client decisions. Anything customer-facing or contractual stays entirely with you.
- Direction of the operation. How large the India team becomes, and what it does, is your call.
Why it matters
Distance is the real cost of an offshore team.
Matters that need local attention
A laptop that needs replacing this morning. A conversation with a landlord. A candidate awaiting a decision today. An employee with a personal difficulty. These are rarely resolved well by email from another continent.
Time zones cut both ways
VMG has supported extended-hours and 24/7 operations for international clients since 2005, with long experience of US and Australian working relationships. Overlap, handover and reporting are familiar considerations here.
Local knowledge is specific
Recruitment market conditions, salary expectations, workspace options, employment practice and vendor reliability differ by city and by role. Two decades of operating in India is the difference between a plan and an operation.
VMG's home base is Bangalore, and teams have been established and operated elsewhere in India, including a dedicated client office in Noida, near Delhi. See selected experience.
