Selected India operations experience

Building India teams before it was called GCC.

For more than two decades, VMG has helped international businesses establish dedicated teams and operating capability in India. Client names are confidential, so each engagement is described by sector and location.

The through-line

The terminology changed. The problem did not.

Outsourcing, offshore teams, captive operations, dedicated centres and now Global Capability Centres. Behind each label sits the same familiar challenge: finding the right people, establishing the operating environment, and making the India team work successfully.

These engagements were not all formally structured as GCCs, and it would be misleading to describe them that way. What they demonstrate is many of the same practical capabilities now required for small and mid-sized India offices and capability centres — specialist recruitment, office establishment, local operations, extended-hours coverage, and handing an operation over to the client once it is ready.

How this applies to a GCC or India office

US mobile technology company  ·  Bangalore

From one employee to a 25-person Bangalore operation

VMG helped a US-based mobile technology company establish a dedicated operation in Bangalore. The engagement began with a single employee.

VMG helped identify and establish the office, recruit the team, coordinate local operations and support the centre as it grew. The India operation eventually expanded to nearly 25 employees.

Once the operation had reached sufficient scale and maturity, it was transitioned to the client.

This engagement began around 2008 — a period when the term “Global Capability Centre” was not yet in widespread business use, although the underlying work of establishing a dedicated India operation was much the same as it is today.

What the engagement involved

  • Office establishment
  • Recruitment
  • Local operations
  • Scaling
  • Transition to client

US field services company  ·  India

A dedicated operations team supporting near-24/7 field activity

VMG helped a US field-services company build a dedicated India operations team supporting field activity in the United States.

The team includes dispatch professionals working across extended hours to coordinate and schedule appointments.

The operation also includes permit-related support, with team members following up with local authorities in California regarding building and repair permits required before certain work can proceed. The role is one of preparation, follow-up and coordination rather than any form of regulatory representation.

The engagement demonstrates VMG’s ability to build specialised operational teams that combine dispatch, scheduling, administrative coordination, permit follow-up, extended-hours coverage and direct interaction with stakeholders in the United States.
